Glitch art is a relatively recent internet phenomena. Glitch art uses the visual mistakes or "glitches" that technology creates as the mode of creating a piece. Many glitch art pieces are put out onto blog websites, such as Tumblr, without any credit. Many people who make glitch art would not label themselves as artists. Glitch art is often purely formal, a way to explore the relationship between technology and aesthetics. However, some glitch art uses these visual mistakes as a way to represent a certain emotional state. Often these pieces of confessional glitch art speak about the isolation and alienation from the human body that internet culture creates. This recalls ideas of the abject, utilizing the horror and repulsion caused by an outside force (technology) to speak about intimate human issues.
